March 20, 2010
CT Spring Ring
Trinity United Methodist Church
180 Park Ave
Windsor, CT

  • Setup: 8:00am - 9:00am
  • Ringing: 9:00am - 3:00ish
  • Sharing concert at 3:30
  • Cost: $15 includes lunch
  • Table Rental: Cost TBD please contach Greg Fisher

We will have a full day of mass ringing, individual classes, and other enjoyable activities designed to bring you to bell heaven.

  • Beginning bell directing
  • Creative Ringing in worship
  • Boomwhackers (not with bells!)
  • Basic and advanced techniques
  • Teaching chimes choirs for kids
  • Two levels of repertoire ringing

We will also participate in a mass ring Sharing Concert at the end of the day, which will feature over 100 (maybe over 200?) ringers performing three songs, complemented by a song from each of several bell choirs. Which choirs, you ask? Why yours, of course. Yes, you can bring your entire bell: choir to the event and play a song of your choosing at the Sharing Concert. The music for the Sharing Concert will be communicated in the next few weeks.

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, how about these classes: music theory for ringers, playing the battery bells, bass bell techniques? We can have those classes and more if you step up and offer to teach them, or any other class pertaining to the handbell crowd. How about the history of handbells? Change Ringing? Bell repair? All of those have been offered at one time or another and would be great attractions if you would like to be an instructor for any of them. Even non-bell activities that would help to offer ringers a respite from ringing, such as a rhythm class, or even origami? Let me know – inundate me with ideas for what you think your ringers would like to see. We want a full house and can accommodate up to about 200 people in this spacious venue

The cost? A mere $15 or so includes a day full of fun and activities, as well as free drinks at lunch. If you need to rent table space there will be a small charge – we are hoping for $5 or so, no more than $10. We already have several people willing to help but more are always needed, particularly in helping to publicize the event in your area, and to help on site the day of the event. Let me know what you are interested in doing – the more the merrier!

If you know your group is interested in coming, feel free to email our registrar, Sara Enger (sara_enger@yahoo.com, or 860-216-2867). We are trying to get an idea of how many groups will be interested and if you will need tables. No commitment yet, just a general interest will be great. So if you are even thinking of attending, give her a call or email. Thank you!

MA Spring Ring with Michele Sharik and Karen Leonard
Tewksbury High School
Tewksbury MA

You and your choir(s) are invited to participate in the Massachusetts Spring Ring (formerly the Merrimack Valley English Handbell Festival) to be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 in the gymnasium of Tewksbury Memorial High School in Tewksbury, MA (location tentative).

Invitations are being sent to groups throughout Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and beyond! Although the facilities allow space for many choirs to participate, we were near maximum capacity last year. An early registration will ensure your participation and a good location on the ringing floor.

The highlight of the Festival will be the presentation of a concert, which will be open to the public. Your choir will have the opportunity to participate in some “massed ringing” when all choirs will play simultaneously under the direction of one conductor. In addition, if you would like, your choir or ensemble (1-6 ringers) may also perform a solo piece of music. Solo selections are limited to five minutes (including set up and applause) so that many groups may have this opportunity. Please note - solos will be assigned by date of receipt of the registration form and last minute additions will only be permitted as space in the program allows.

The massed selections are listed below. Please purchase sufficient copies for your ringers and rehearse the music thoroughly ahead of time. Our rehearsal time together is limited and intended for developing an ensemble performance, rather than learning the music.

Please note – AGEHR strictly adheres to the copyright laws
NO PHOTOCOPIES of any published music will be allowed.

1. Celebrate With Joy – Cynthia Dobrinski, Hope Publishing MHP2515, 3 – 6 Octave, L3-

We are also planning a Youth Division again this year. Repertoire selected is:

The proposed schedule for the Festival will be as follows:

3:00 – 4:30 massed rehearsal – Adult Division in gym
4:30 – 5:00 individual choir rehearsals as scheduled
5:00 – 5:30 massed rehearsal – Youth Division in gym

6:00 – 6:30 final massed rehearsal – Adults in gym
7:00 – 8:30 concert in gym
8:30 – tear down and refreshments in cafeteria

Registration cost is $7.50 per ringer (you may list multiple choirs on a single form), which covers performance royalties, guest musicians, massed conductors, and insurance liability coverage. Participants typically bring a bag supper and share fellowship time together before the final rehearsal. Following the concert they enjoy refreshments with the audience, which are supplied by the participant groups. The program is sponsored by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, Area I Inc.
